Madras

The Madras takes its name from the famous plaid fabric of Chennai (formerly Madras), India — its layers of cranberry red, orange, and lime green in the glass echo the textile’s vibrant checks. Essentially a Cape Codder with the addition of orange juice, the Madras emerged as vodka cocktails surged in popularity through the 1970s and ’80s. Vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice over ice with a lime wedge — it’s a simple, crowd-friendly highball that drinks like a fresh fruit juice but carries a clean vodka backbone.

  • 4 oz cranberry juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 lime wedge
