Hot Buttered Cranberry Punch

Jellied cranberry sauce dissolved with brown sugar and warm spices — cinnamon, allspice, and cloves — into a hot punch. This is a holiday classic that transforms a Thanksgiving side dish into a warming winter drink. The brown sugar and spices give it a gingerbread-like depth.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz jellied cranberry juice
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
  • butter

Instructions

  1. Crush cranberry sauce with a fork.
  2. Mix with sugar, spices and salt.
  3. Add water and pineapple juice.
  4. Cover and simmer 2 hours.
  5. Ladle into mugs and float a pat of butter in each serving.
