The Black Cow is a root beer float by its original name — vanilla ice cream, root beer, and chocolate syrup topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Root beer floats date to the 1890s, and the Black Cow was one of the earliest names for the combination. The chocolate syrup adds a mocha edge to the classic vanilla-root beer pairing.
