The Barcelona Fizz brings a Spanish accent to the fizz family by using sweet sherry as the primary spirit alongside gin. Sherry-based cocktails have been enjoying a renaissance, but this one has deep roots — sherry was one of the most commonly used fortified wines in pre-Prohibition cocktail making. The sweetness and nuttiness of the sherry play beautifully against the juniper botanicals of gin, with lemon juice and soda providing the signature fizz effervescence.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz sweet sherry
- 1 oz gin
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- 1/4 oz sugar syrup
- 4 oz soda water
Instructions
- Shake the sherry, gin, lemon juice and syrup in a shaker.
- Strain into a frosted highball glass half filled with ice, then add chilled soda.
- Garnish with a lemon slice and a cherry, and serve with straws and a muddler.
