Desert Martini

The Desert Martini takes the Dry Martini’s obsession with dryness to its logical extreme — instead of adding vermouth, you merely dip a toothpick into the vermouth and stir the gin with that. The joke dates back to the mid-20th century golden age of Martini culture, when drinkers competed to make their Martinis as dry as possible. Winston Churchill supposedly achieved the same effect by glancing at a bottle of vermouth across the room. This is essentially straight cold gin with the idea of vermouth.
