Fontainebleau Sidecar

The Fontainebleau Sidecar takes the Bourbon Sidecar template and finishes it with a float of Grand Marnier, adding an extra layer of orange complexity. The original Sidecar — said to have been created around the end of World War I, likely by bartender Pat MacGarry at Buck’s Club in London — is one of the great classic cocktails. This variation uses bourbon instead of cognac for its base, then enriches the triple sec’s citrus notes with Grand Marnier’s deeper, more nuanced orange character. Strained into a large wine glass or snifter, it drinks like a more luxurious take on an already elegant cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • juice of 1/2 lemons
  • 1 tsp Grand Marnier® orange liqueur

Instructions

  1. Mix or shake all ingredients, except grand marnier made with cracked ice in a shaker.
  2. Pour or strain into large chilled wine glass or snifter.
  3. Float grand marnier on top.
