A pre-Prohibition classic that reads like an Irish Manhattan: Irish whiskey and dry vermouth stirred with dashes of Pernod and Angostura bitters. The Pernod adds a subtle anise undertone that distinguishes this from a standard whiskey-vermouth pairing. Historically served in Irish pubs as a dignified alternative to drinking whiskey neat.
